Yoga: A Healthy Way To Pregnancy


With the stressful and hectic environment that people have these days, most people do not realize how important relaxation is. We are consumed with the desire to accomplish everything or get the disappointment and worries of not being able to do so. No one is spared from this mindset, from the worried student, exhausted professional even the supposedly happy pregnant woman. There are several ways to relax and have the calming spirit. One can go to the beach and have a vacation, have spa within the city to escape the busy world for a moment or stay in a sweet, silent place and do yoga. Yes yoga. But do you also know that aside from keeping us stress-free and relaxed, yoga can also pave way to a healthy pregnancy?

A healthy pregnancy is defined as a pregnancy free from possible complications that may cause fetal problems and may lead to  an unhealthy baby. Every pregnant woman wants a healthy baby of course. This is the reason why all the possible ways to make the baby healthy is being considered by each couple. But aside from the monthly doctor’s appointment and supplemental vitamins, it is necessary that an expectant mom make an holistic approach to have a healthy pregnancy.

When we say holistic approach, we are considering not only the physical aspect of a person but altogether with the mind and the spirit. This is what yoga is trying to achieve, that is to have the unity between the mind and body to make an overall healthy wellbeing.

Yoga comes from India and has been adapted by several cultures in the entire globe due to its ability to achieve its purpose.  Some people do yoga to relax and meditate, but now, even doctors are recommend yoga to pregnant women as a way to have a healthy pregnancy. But how does yoga helps expectant mom to have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby?

Yoga exercises compose of different poses and breathing techniques that give the body health benefits. With each pose that is performed, it works the muscles of the body like when it does stretching. Stretching improves the flexibility of a person which is very vital to a pregnant woman especially during labor and birth. The breathing techniques helps the body get adequate supply of oxygen in the body which is also vital to the development of the baby in the womb.

As we have mentioned earlier, yoga exercises has been adapted by many for meditation. Relaxation and calmness is necessary to pregnant women. With the many adjustments that pregnant women deal with, being stressed can affect the wellness of the baby in the womb. Through relaxation and reflection, it eases up the tension and emotional burden that many pregnant women leave unattended and ignored.

Yoga can do a lot of health benefits to pregnancy. Ask your doctor about it and strengthen the bonding between you and your baby while he is inside the womb.
